PA. Uniform Construction Code (UCC) is in Effect in Abington Township.
As of April 19, 2004, the Pennsylvania UCC went into effect statewide. What this means to you is that basically all construction, with a few exceptions, that is being done in the state of Pennsylvania must meet the UCC and will be inspected to see that it meets the code. The inspections will be done by certified building code inspectors who have been appointed by the municipality in which the work is being done. Abington Township has contracted with Building Inspection Underwriters, Inc. of Scranton, PA to do these inspections. All aspects of a building project must now be inspected. There are a number of required building, electrical, mechanical and plumbing inspections. The costs of these UCC inspections are included in the building permit fee, but the contractor or resident who is doing the construction work is required to call BIU, Inc. at 344-9681 to schedule the inspections as needed. Inspections need to be scheduled at least 24 hrs. in advance, but preferably 48 hrs. in advance. Applications for all building permits are to be made at the Abington Township municipal office, Lake Henry Drive, Waverly. We can answer any questions and will guide you through the permitting process.
